Not retiring yet. Will tell fans when the time is right: Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar, who is on the verge of becoming the first cricketer to play 200 Tests, rubbished talk of retirement. In an interview to Zee News, he said: “When the time is right, I will let everyone know.” While Tendulkar admitted that is appropriate to let his fans know of his decision, he said he will inform them when he feels like.

With the BCCI introducing a series against the West Indies in November, Tendulkar is likely to play his 200th Test at home in all probabilty at his home ground, the Wankhede Stadium. The Master Blaster, however, says the milestone is not on his mind. “I am not looking too ahead. Right now, I’m preparing for the Champions League. We’ll see what’s in store after that,” he said.

Tendulkar, 40, has been playing international cricket for over 23 years and holds almost every record in the game. With over 34,000 international runs, including a century of centuries, he has tasted success that others can only dream of. Yet, he has steered away from controversies.

Tendulkar gives credit to his family for his simple upbringing.

“Right from my school days when I started playing cricket, whatever noise there was about my success, at home, we always had a simple celebration. A box of sweets was offered to god. It has always been like that,” he said.

Revered as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, Tendulkar said he was no ‘god’ and feels blessed to have received the kind of adulation that he has from his fans.
