India’s borders will be safer if Modi becomes PM, BJP spokesperson says

nmnIndia’s borders will be safer if Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi becomes the prime minister, BJP national spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi asserted on Friday.

“I can give an assurance of safer borders for the country with Narendra Modi as the PM,” she said while replying to a query as to what action Modi would take in response to the frequent border incursions by China and Pakistan.

Lekhi, who addressed a press meet at the state BJP headquarters here, said there was lack of a firm response from the UPA government at the Centre in the face of ‘Chinese and Pakistani duplicity.’

Alluding to the reported Chinese incursions into Arunachal Pradesh over the past few days, she said, “The supple back of the Indian government is exposed time and again.”

A firm message should go out from the country in response to these Chinese incursions, she reiterated.

Lekhi said Modi, who is BJP’s central election committee chief, would address a youth conference in Trichy on September 26.

Condemning the gang rape of a magazine’s photographer in Mumbai on Thursday, she said this was a ‘grim reminder of the Nirbhaya case’ in Delhi as there were similar circumstances of the victim being separated from her male colleague.

She held the Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra squarely responsible for the ‘deteriorating law and order situation there’ and said the “sheer brutality of the crime has brought into question the safety of working women all over the country.”

Lekhi said she did not wish to politicise the crime and demanded a thorough investigation and judicial probe.
